This itinerary is ideal for travelers who want to experience the highlights of southern Vietnam in a short time while enjoying authentic local encounters along the way.
Day 1 – Arrival in Saigon
Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City, still affectionately known as Saigon. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to your hotel for check-in.
The rest of the day is free for you to relax after your flight or begin exploring the city at your own pace. Wander through lively streets, enjoy a Vietnamese coffee, or simply soak up the atmosphere of this energetic metropolis where old and new exist side by side.
Day 2 – Saigon Full-Day City Tour

Today, discover the highlights of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest and most dynamic urban center. Saigon is a city of contrasts, where historic architecture, modern development, traditional markets, and everyday street life create a fascinating travel experience.
Visit some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the elegant French colonial buildings that reflect its past, such as the Notre Dame Cathedral area and the Central Post Office. Continue to the Reunification Palace, one of the most important historical sites in the city, then visit the War Remnants Museum for a powerful look into Vietnam’s modern history.
The tour also takes you to Cholon, the city’s Chinatown, where you can discover its unique atmosphere, traditional temples, and vibrant local culture. Stop at Thien Hau Pagoda, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea, before enjoying some free time for shopping or relaxing back at your hotel.
Day 3 – Saigon – Cai Be – Can Tho

Leave the city behind this morning and head to Cai Be, one of the most charming gateways to the Mekong Delta. On arrival, board a traditional local boat and begin exploring the waterways that make this region so special.
Cruise past floating trading boats, quiet canals, riverbank villages, and wide green rice fields. Here, the Mekong reveals its true character: fertile land, busy river life, and generations of communities living in harmony with the water. Along the way, see how goods are displayed on tall poles above the boats, a unique and practical way for traders to show what they are selling from afar.
Continue your journey with visits to local family-run workshops where rice paper, coconut candy, and puffed rice are traditionally made. Then cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island to observe daily life in the riverside villages and enjoy a local lunch before driving to Can Tho for an overnight stay.
Day 4 – Can Tho – Chau Doc

Rise early this morning for one of the most memorable experiences in the Mekong Delta: a boat trip to Cai Rang Floating Market. This is where the river comes alive with activity as wholesalers gather on boats filled with tropical fruits and vegetables. It is a vivid and authentic glimpse into the commercial traditions of the delta.
After the market visit, continue by road to Chau Doc, a peaceful border town near Cambodia known for its cultural diversity and river landscapes. Along the way, the scenery changes from busy waterways to open countryside, fertile fields, and quiet local communities.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat excursion to explore the canals and waterways of the area. Chau Doc is also known for the coexistence of different ethnic communities, including Vietnamese, Khmer, and Cham people, adding a distinctive cultural layer to your journey. Overnight in Chau Doc.
Day 5 – Chau Doc – Ho Chi Minh City or Phnom Penh

After breakfast, your journey comes to an end with two options.
You may return by road to Ho Chi Minh City, bringing your southern Vietnam adventure to a close. Or, for those who wish to continue exploring, you can take a speedboat to Phnom Penh and extend your trip into Cambodia.
Whichever option you choose, this 5-day itinerary leaves you with lasting memories of southern Vietnam’s rich culture, welcoming people, and unforgettable river life.
